The late Prince was truly a style trailblazer. Whether it be his musical genius or stretching the boundaries of masculinity, sex and rock n’ roll in his gender-bending costumes and signature smoky eye, he was a visionary.
And now, five years after his untimely death, Urban Decay is releasing a makeup collection in his honor. The range will be called ‘Live Loud In Color’ and will be Purple Rain (one of his biggest hits) inspired – very apt considering this is the color he lived his legacy in.
Dropping on the 27th of May, we can expect two eye shadow palettes, kohl eyeliners, a liquid highlighter and a setting powder. Shades range from metallic pink, lavender, and ultraviolet – all named after his hit songs like ‘Groovy Potential,’ ‘Rasberry Beret’ and ‘Get Your Groove On.’
According to the brand’s press release, the collection was created with key members of Prince’s camp, including close friend and muse Damaris Lewis (also set to be the face of the collection), creative director Trevor Guy and director/photographer Randee St. Nicholas, who documented Prince’s career for three decades. Their collective aim for the line is to ‘inspire you to make your own rules, just as Prince did for so many decades.’
In a follow up statement, co-founder of Urban Decay Wende Zomnir went on to say: “We couldn’t possibly imitate someone as legendary as Prince, and to compare him to a palette would diminish who he was. It’s easy to say why this collection makes sense on the surface – his makeup looks and our shared love of purple – but we did our best to embody his energy on a deeper level. We found his ethos of not asking permission to be who he was and owning it so boldly aligned with our values of breaking the mould and championing all forms of beauty.”
