A new Boy George Biopic is on the horizon, riding the coattails of Rocketman and double Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody, that made a whopping $900 million.
Produced by MGM, with Sacha Gervasi (biopic connoisseur) as writer and director, it will be the motion picture production companies’ second largest musical biopic, after the in-production Aretha Franklin biopic.
With rumours of Sophie Turner (yes, Sansa from Game of Thrones) in agreement to play the icon due to their striking resemblance, it’s certainly going to be a cinematic hit regardless.
Much like Rocketman, we’re expecting an effervescent, saturated, oneiric mise-en-scene and pathos; a fever-dream taking us back to the colourful 1980’s that is so indicative of Boy George’s image.
While we freshen up on Culture Club’s discography, as it looks like we won’t be getting this film until at least late 2020, we take a look back on the icon himself.
Boy George’s image and worldwide presence transcends age, race, colour, creed, nationality and religion – something we’re all in dire need of during a time of division.
His use of makeup is an empowering image to anyone – it demonstrates how most importantly makeup and beauty should make you feel something.
“I wear makeup and dress this way because I think it makes me look better. I am not doing it to get people to stare at me…
The most political thing you can do is be yourself. “ – Boy George
