FIVE of the Best: Hair & Beauty from NYFW A/W’18

New York Fashion Week was a week of opposites with regard to hair and beauty: bright versus muted, sleek hair versus bangs and statement eyes versus barely-there looks. Designers were certainly daring with their beauty choices. Below is our roundup of the top five beauty trends to come out of the event.

1. A Daring Eye

The runways at New York Fashion Week were flooded with fearless eye makeup, starting with a pop of blue eyeliner designed by Zenia Jaeger for Saks Potts. Anna Sui, Chromat and Adam Selman were just some of the brands that put their own twist on the look, marking it as one of the stand out trends of the season so far.

2. Muted Makeover

Focusing the attention on contour and brows was the key to this toned down beauty look, moving away from the fresh, bare faces of Spring Summer 18. This gave a cool, high fashioned edge for designers such as Calvin Klein and Alexander Wang.

3. Red and Berry Lips

Red and berry lips were given a makeover by Tom Pecheux for Brandon Maxwell by adding a shimmering gold lip-liner to make the colours pop. Designers showed the diversity of this look as some, like Chromat, opted to pair the it with a bright, colourful eye, whereas others, like Jonathan Simkhai chose to keep the focus on the traditional red lip.

4. 90s Hair Accessories

Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung and Tom Ford all brought 90s hair accessories back to the runway for Autumn Winter 18 with the return of the claw grip and headbands. Alexander Wang’s claw grip gave a sleek yet relaxed finish, whereas Tom Ford’s chunky bandana headbands gave a rock chick feel.

5. Bangs

Side swept, middle part, block, faux – bangs were everywhere. The middle part faux bangs proved to be very popular with Coach 1941 and Jason Wu whereas block bangs were the style of choice for Collina Strada and Creatures of Comfort. The effects were polar opposite – floating versus direct – but cemented bangs as the hair trend of the Autumn Winter 18 season.
