This time around the Metropolitan Museum of Art released exciting news that had never been done before. Iconic makeup artist, Pat McGrath, has teamed up with The Met Collection, creating a limited-edition range of cosmetics from her legendary brand.
The creative collaboration marks the first time the New York City museum has ever stocked beauty products in its gift shops. The exquisite makeup artist took inspiration from Renaissance and Baroque paintings when creating her new packaging.
She told WWD in an interview “For the Metropolitan Museum of Art to include makeup alongside some of the greatest masterworks of Western art is truly exceptional.” “True beauty is about confidence, individuality and character and we must continue to demand beauty icons who represent all cultures, genders, expressions of sexuality, religions and cultural beliefs.”
As well as cosmetics, the artist’s collaboration with The Met Collection will also include an exclusive line of merch. It includes limited-edition short-sleeve T-shirts for $62 and long-sleeve ones for $82, whilst being unisex clothing like her previous merch collection.
This collaboration is an opportunity for McGrath to celebrate her values of the diversity and creativity she has championed throughout her career. The collection features a new lip gloss shade titled “Aliengelic” which is a duochrome shade infused with pink pearl. Also, a special edition of the Mothership IV: Decadence Eyeshadow Palette which will retail for $125.
The Pat McGrath Labs x The Met collection will be available at the “Heavenly Bodies” exhibition store and online at Store.MetMuseum.org from the 8th May.
