In the first addition of a series of music video releases to accompany the tracks from her new mixtape ‘Caprisongs’, FKA twigs has just released the video for her latest single ‘Meta Angel’. Directed by Aidan Zamiri and filmed in London, the highly-anticipated music video sees the musician shoot an arrow through the heart of her own alter-ego.
Set in a London park, the visuals follow two different versions of the artist, as one looks down from the roof of a building with a bow and arrow in hand, the other lies prey on the empty grass. As the music builds the arrow is released, flying across the city and ultimately striking the aforementioned version of herself in the chest. In line with the messages from the album and the notion of a journey back to oneself, themes of rebirth are apparent throughout the powerful visuals in the video for ‘Meta Angel’.
The effective presentation of FKA twigs and her alter-ego is achieved through the use of styling and beauty which work together to create two differing looks. We are first introduced to a natural and fresh-faced canvas which is quickly overwhelmed by a more intense interpretation showcasing sharp winged eyeliner, a smokey eye, and heavily lined lips. While a pure and simple white oversized fit contradicts the tartan micro mini skirt, black mule sandals, and revealing fishnet tights we meet as the video progresses.
Caprisongs was released just last week, aptly in the midst of Capircorn season, put out by FKA twigs as a progression of healing and a soundtrack to life. The record contains candid recordings of her friends as well as collaborations with the likes of Jorja Smith and The Wknd.
