FKA Twigs Is the Youngest Solo Artist to Win NME’S Godlike Genius Award

This week NME Music Magazine has announced that British singer, FKA twigs (AKA Tahlia Burnett) will receive their legendary Godlike Genius Award. The award is presented to groups or solo artists who have significantly shaped the musical landscape.

The well-deserved award commends the young singer’s talent. From her debut album, LP1, in 2014 to her most recent mixtape (Caprisongs) released this year; each of which helped the star influence millions of fans via Spotify and Instagram.

While the star is no beginner at receiving major awards – she previously won MTV’s Best Alternative Artist and a Youtube Music Award – the star remained humble when speaking about her most recent win, claiming the award is “an absolute honour”. The star claimed she felt honoured to see her name among previous winners like Blondie and The Clash.

The award will be presented to Twigs at the Bandlab NME Awards 2022 in the O2 Arena. A night deemed ‘the wildest night in music’ by NME, where FKA twigs will impressively become the youngest and first black female artist to be presented with the award.

With FKA’s iconic music, comes iconic style – Voir takes a look back at the singer’s greatest fashion looks. The star’s adventurous urban style plays with materials from velvet to silk and the star isn’t afraid to experiment with bold and clashing prints like cow print and pinstripe. So come with us as we delve into the wardrobe of up-and-coming music (and fashion) icon.

FKA Twigs Fashion Moments:

In a recent Instagram post, the star confirmed Y2K velour tracksuits are still our favourite lounge attire. Layering up for the chilly streets of London, twigs paired a cream Juicy Couture tracksuit with a leopard print ankle-length coat for a cosy, urban look.

In another Y2K inspired look, the star posed to her Instagram followers in a cropped Vivienne Westwood tee, paired with low rise pants. The star also showed her followers her fun side in a dinosaur-themed hat.

FKA twig’s stylist, Matthew Josephs, dressed the star in a pirate-inspired look for a 2019 shoot. The look featured a renaissance-style corset, pinstripe pants, and gold chains; demonstrating the star’s ability to mix up any two prints and still look incredible.

On the streets of New York City, twigs added a touch of Manhattan glamour to her urban-chic style, in a silk, liquid gold slip dress. The dress was paired with chunky Doc Martin boots, remaining faithful to her casual street style.

On her way to the 2019 Haute Couture shows, FKA brought a black and white twiggy-inspired look to the streets of Paris. Wearing a Valentino bucket hat, little black dress and two-toned cow print boots, the star mixed urban streetwear with 60s glamour to create this ultimate retro look.
