There are certain collaborations we all dream of but could never imagine happening. Let’s say Taylor Swift and Kanye West make an album together, or Adidas and Nike release a limited-edition sneaker, it would just be too good to be true, right?
Well, while these may sound too unrealistic rumours have emerged of a similarly shocking collab. Gucci, never ceasing to surprise us, may demonstrate that anything’s possible with a rumoured collaboration with Balenciaga.
The unprecedented partnership between the Italian and French luxury giants is rumoured to unveil in the upcoming digital presentation of Gucci’s ‘Aria’ collection, scheduled for Thursday, April 15. As reported by WWD the collection would mark the collaboration of Gucci’s and Balenciaga’s creative directors, respectively, Alessandro Michele and Demna Gvasalia. It would present the joint creations designed for the Autumn-Winter 2021-22 in a series of short films released globally via various online platforms.
The partnerships has yet to be officially confirmed, but if true it could potentially be a major event and strategic move for Gucci, marking the celebrations of the label’s 100th year anniversary.
The collaboration may be unusual but the choice of its possible presentation isn’t. Projects such as ‘Aria’ once again showcase the will of the Kering group to act outside of the fashion calendar, a brand strategy centered on unveiling its collections outside of fashion week and following its personal fashion agenda – similarly done with GucciFest.
