The end of last week saw one of high street fashion’s most exciting announcements come out of the woodwork. After a lot of speculation H&M shared that their latest designer collaboration will be with French fashion house Mugler. The high-street fashion brand shared the news with a promotional video that starred Shygirl, Arca, Eartheater and Amaarae who performed the campaign’s soundtrack; a re-recording of ‘Music Sounds Better with You’.
The video celebrates all things theatrical. The inclusive cast partake in various activities; from modelling to singing, they even take over a talk show. One thing we are particularly grateful for is that the campaign allows us a second look at Arca’s iconic modelling that took over our Instagram feeds at the Mugler show back in January.
Despite being a H&M launch, the collection is instantly recognisable as Mugler. The promotional videos and images show various looks, from jumpsuits to tops that feature Mugler’s distinct, bold, and futuristic designs. They play with sheer mesh, a Mugler trademark, which compliments a lot of the more structured pieces. There are also looks that play with cut-outs and crossover details that really emphasise the influences that Mugler have had over the campaign.
While the majority of the collection appears to be quite dark, we do get a snapshot at some more vibrant colours. From cobalt blue dresses to neon green suits, some of Mugler’s signature colours have shone through. Many in the form of perfect party looks for the summer.
The collection also appears to have a lot of fun with denim. The various black panelled jeans provide a more unique take on denim, something that is a set trend for this season. The collection also appears to accommodate for the double-denim trend that is taking the fashion world by storm as we see hints at a denim jean and jacket co-ord.
Our stand-out piece from the collection has to be the black jumpsuit worn by Arca. The mesh panelling and strategic design is pure Mugler and could be styled in so many ways. Whether you wear it as a catsuit, or layer items with it to break the look up, the look is beautiful as it is but also hold so much potential for styling. And, we must say, nothing screams Mugler quite like a catsuit.
The collection will be available online and in select stores from the 11th of May 2023 and we cannot wait to see what the full collection has in store for us.
