Released on June 5, 2001, “Songs In A Minor”, Alicia Keys’ debut album, was a breakthrough record for the R&B world. A record that introduced us to the soothing voice and talent of an artist that ended up marking the history of contemporary music.
The album, which debuted at no.1 on the Billboard 200 and was then certified 7 times platinum, became an imminent global success. Its popularity was undeniable, proven by the increasing appreciation of hit songs like “Fallin” (lead single) that remained at the #1 position for six consecutive weeks of the Billboard Hot 100, at the time – becoming one of the most listened to songs of the decade.
Since the release of “Songs In A Minor”, Alicia Keys has sold over 65 million records and built an unprecedented repertoire of hits. Leading her to become the no.1 RIAA-certified female R&B artist of the millennium, with over 27 million digital sales and 20 million physical albums (in the US). Her career does not end there, unlike other artists, the 15-time GRAMMY® Award-winning artist continues to impress us with her trajectory and dedication to R&B, showcased through her seventh studio album “ALICIA”. The album, which was released in September of 2020, has further earned her the eighth position on Billboard’s R&B albums chart.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Songs In A Minor”, the album that started it all, RCA Records / Legacy Recordings will be releasing a special edition of the timeless record: “Songs in A Minor (20th Anniversary Edition)” which will feature two previously unreleased bonus tracks, “Foolish Heart” and “Crazy (Mi Corazon)”, extracted from the recording sessions of the original album.
The album will be available digitally and on vinyl starting from June 4.
