SS21 Hair Trends To Try Out When You’re Bored at Home

Boris’ latest announcement has all had us feeling some kind of way. Frustration, anger, sadness or maybe even acceptance for some, 2021 hasn’t kicked off in quite the way we have hoped. Despite the current sitch, positivity is vital. And with positivity (and a fresh lockdown) comes hair. Or hair experimentation. We’re talking vintage throwbacks from LaQuan Smith and LRS, short bobs of all shapes and textures from Anna Sui and Brock, and an electric shock from Claudia Li that we simply can’t get enough of.

Despite the difficult start to the New Year, we’re excited to welcome in a whole new era of inspirational styles that we’re certain will get some heads turning (and that you can easily try out when you’re bored at home with nothing else to do). Get ahead of the game by diving into our predictions for the hottest cuts, colours, and textures in the coming Spring/Summer 2021 seasons.

  1. 70s Updos

Ever since Ariana Grande blessed us with her stylishly retro 34+35 music video, we’ve seen a resurgence in glamorous vintage hairstyles—ranging all the way from the 60s beehive to this 70s high pony with a fringe twirl seen at LaQuan Smith. Achievable for any hair type, we really see this trend catching on in the months to come.

2. 90s Grunge Waves

Grunge revival is back and here to stay, with LRS showcasing tangles of seemingly effortless waves and uneven layers that are only structured by a clean centre part—think Kurt Cobain meets Kate Moss circa 1992, both untamed, wild, and free.

3. Swooped Back

Simple, clean, and a breeze to achieve, the look at Marina Mascone was cool, calm, and collected with hair swooped back, surfer style. The ideal look for when we can finally hit the beaches again, or at the very least emulate with a healthy dose of sea-salt spray.

4. Neon Buzz Cut at Claudia Li

Through the wash of natural hues and longer styles spotted this season, the neon turquoise buzz cut from Claudia Li stood out from a mile away in the best way possible—it’s exactly the electrifying jolt needed to bolster our creativity and boost our imagination.

5. Tucked In

There’s something oh-so chic and sophisticated about understated strands tucked below a collar, and that’s exactly what Overcoal is doing right now. Ideal for those with mid length cuts, we predict this easy to achieve style will become a staple within our hair wardrobes.

6. Side Partings

Poker straight fringes and deep side partings were all the range at Anna Sui, coupled with a distinguished array of blunt cut bobs presented in angular formations—a blatant contrast to the whimsical collection but a welcome one, nonetheless.

7. Natural Textures

Veronica Beard has never made embracing our natural hair more fashionable, with models flaunting soft, bouncy curls that cascade from shoulders—inspiring us to ditch the straighteners and box dyes in favour of the au naturale instead of the superficial.

8. Choppy Bobs

Brock favoured cheeky chin-skimming blunt cut bobs this season and quite frankly, so do we. This windswept style is simply oozing ‘cool’ with an understated edge that comes from voluminous, well-kempt locks coupled with a relaxed tuck behind the ear.
