First coming to our screens in 2018, this cat and mouse game captured our hearts and has kept us hooked for four years. Now, we prepare ourselves for the final chapter of this story, whilst looking back to where season 3 left us.
In case you aren’t familiar or need to jog your memory, Killing Eve follows Eve (portrayed by Sandra Oh) as she is set on a mission by an intelligence agency to find and kill an assassin, responsible for the loss of many lives. This leads Eve to find Villanelle (Jodie Comer), but the pair become infatuated with each other, making the mission of pursuit even more difficult.
Season 3 closed with the pair on London Bridge, mutually agreeing to walk away from each other (albeit a hesitant walk). This ending was much more laid back in comparison to the previous season’s finales which entailed stabbing and gunshots. However, this open ending to season 3 was of course intentional, and had us fans conspiring ever since on what would be next for this deadly pairing.
The trailer for season four shows both Eve and Villanelle speaking about their troubles, in particular, Villanelle seems to hold a lot of regret towards her violent ways. Despite the duo’s vulnerability being at the heart of the trailer, there are still witty lines and jokes, classic to Killing Eve’s style.
We also see that Carolyn (head of MI6) confronts Eve with a new task of investigating why members of the Twelve are being killed. Lighting a fire in Eve, we see she has held on to her old investigation board from her previous tasks to pursue Villanelle, and most likely won’t be saying no to another chance of finding Villanelle.
The trailer crescendos into Villanelle and Eve yet again coming face to face, with Eve saying the line;
“Do you know about the fable of the scorpion and the frog? They both die. Because the scorpion can’t change its nature”
To which Villanelle responds;
“Maybe you are the scorpion.”
If you are like us and can’t wait to see how this alluring game of cat and mouse ends, you don’t have much longer to wait! Episode one is coming to BBC 1 on Sunday, 27th February.
