May is here, and as exciting as it is for some as it represents the end of an academic year or the approaching arrival of summer… for others, it remains an overwhelming time with too many tasks at hand. Whether you’re stressed due to the exam session, never-ending work hours or you’re simply too reluctant to go outside so suddenly after a pandemic we’re here to help. We’ve come up with a list of our current favourite films and series on Netflix to watch this month.
Check it out!
Lucifer
Lucifer is back! Netflix unveiled that season 5B will debut globally on May 28. The first half of the season, which returned in August, was full of secrets and supernatural revelations so we cannot wait to see what this second part has in store for us. All we know as of now is that it will be centred on the arrival of God (Dennis Haysbert) on Earth who apparently might retire from his celestial tasks. Will Lucifer take over?
The Woman At The Window
We cannot wait for the release of ‘The Woman at the window’, on May 14. The movie tells the story of a complex woman suffering from agoraphobia that obsessively spies on her neighbours. A confusing plot that gets more interesting when the woman, Anna Fox (Amy Adams), witnesses a brutal crime and discovers that appearances are just a facade.
Money, Explained
We need money, we want money, we talk about money… but how much do we really know about it? All of the questions you’ve ever had about money but were too scared or lazy to ask might be answered by this episode of Explained. The Netflix & Vox production will be covering the main topics that come to mind when you think of money; how to save it, who to take it from, how to negotiate the money you get, and how to invest it responsibly (avoiding frauds and scams). Learning is a never-ending process, and especially when it comes to the ever-changing financial world and we should learn everything we can about it… especially if it’s as easy as watching a Netflix show.
Halston
One of the most, if not the most, anticipated series for us when it comes to fashion. The series premiering on May 14 tells the life of the legendary, and controversial, mind behind Halston: Roy Halston (Ewan McGregor) of course. Ryan Murphy decided to portray the disco-era designer, one of Studio-54’s era most influential personalities, throughout his path to change “the face of American fashion” while presenting his personal and legal battles. It’s a must-watch for any fashion aficionado – one that will take you into the behind-the-scenes of one of the brands that redefined effortless femininity back in the 70s and 80s.
Monster
Monster, which premieres on May 7, tells us the story of Steve Harmon (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.), a 17-year-old student whose world falls apart when he is accused of murder. We know, it probably sounds like a cliché, but we’re positive that it’ll be one worth watching… What will become of Steve’s life? Maybe it’ll surprise us and prove our assumptions of clichés wrong.
Selena
The second part of the Netflix show on Selena Quintanilla premiered yesterday, on May 4. Luckily for us, and the majority of her fans, this second half of the season is centred on the singer herself. Distancing from the turmoil with her family, and the accreditation of success to her dad seen in the first half of the season. This time we get to see the acclaimed singer succeed and be content with her career… a career that keeps on presenting challenges, but this time these are overcome in a more uplifting and ‘Selena’ manner.
