Tie-Dye has made its way back into fashion by force. Its transparent entrance into SS20 has not only hit retailers, but many independent labels are seen to grasp at the psychedelic trend.
Needless to say, tie-dye is always pushing boundaries and has done for many periods in fashion, but more so shifting its audience to a less a psychedelic target and to a more on-trend audience as of the production of loungewear.
The fashion industry has not only adapted to this pandemic, but it has opened a gateway for creativity that has made tie-dye one of the ‘most wanted’ attire. This season tie-dye is grounded on pastel and lighter shades of colour as it shifts from its original scheme of bold shades.
It goes without notice that luxury brands have grasped at the idea of tie-dye before and have incorporated the style in their collections; such as Stella McCartney and Prada. With fast fashion at its peak, it can be seen that online and in-store retailers are quick to jump on the trend especially Missguided, Pretty Little Thing and Asos, with different styles and fits of tie-dye for a much lower price.
The tie-dye effect has been seen to make its way on to the social media spectrum as it being the central hub for celebrities and the place to find new styles. With the majority being on Instagram, the unique pattern seeks to spiral its way into people’s shopping baskets without hesitation, it is meant to be in this season with that sort of effect on people!
The Kardashian and Jenner clan have also been spotted significant of times strutting in tie-dye. Kylie Jenner’s baby girl Stormi is also seen to embed the concept of tie-dye in her ‘Stormi World’ merchandise catering to her baby couture. Artists such as Travis Scott has also interpreted the tie-dye model in his album merchandise for ‘Astroworld’.It can be perceived that tie-dye is a symbol of authenticity, whereby each item of clothing will never be the same, so you don’t have to worry about fashion clashes. This psychedelic print is easy to achieve as the name suggests all you need to do is grab your favourite t-shirt tie it up and dye it.
