If you’re like us and are already thinking about your next make-up look or hairstyle to rock, then look no further. We are looking ahead at what is on the cards heading into 2023 in the world of make-up and hair. This past year we’ve seen euphoric-inspired eye make-up, gorgeous glazed doughnut nails from the infamous Hailey Biebers and the iconic slick back bun. Heading into 2023 we can expect to see a continuation of some of these looks, but there will also be some new looks and some adaptions to some of our old favourites to look forward to.
HAIR
Golden Warm Highlights
Going into 2023, the hair scene is going to be championing an au natural look with effortless styles and warm hair tones. The golden highlight craze is by no means new, but it will be following us into 2023. This look is perfect for brunettes looking to go lighter or blondes wanting to go darker as it styles a subtle colouring guide with the golden highlights spread out in a natural but flattering way. This look can be created by using reverse balayage, or by using lowlights to create a bronde effect, similar to the style Hailey Bieber rocks.
Preppy Hair Accessories
The preppy girl aesthetic is one that you couldn’t have missed in 2022 as it dominated TikTok with users styling cute clips and hair ties that complemented their outfits gorgeously. This preppy hair look is one that can be styled in many ways and is one that will be living on in 2023 due to its popularity. These accessories can take on many colours and shapes as anything goes with this look. You can have bright pops of colour on a headband or muted side clips that frame your face. Some cute side clips that hook up your side bangs would be a perfect added element to the mermaid curly hairstyle, as it makes the look more organised and flattering around the face. These preppy accessories can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion and that is why they are going to continue in popularity heading into 2023.
Wispy Curtain Bangs
Since Matilda Djerf graced our Instagram feeds, everyone has been wild over the reintroduction of the 70s curtain bangs. They are stylish and flattering to the face while also being your best friend when you’re trying to achieve a gorgeous blowout. But heading into 2023, we can expect to see a wispier version of this iconic look. Wispy curtain bangs include a light fringe or side bangs while having layering continue along your face line. This look accentuates the face lovely and provides a natural bounce to your hair that makes it ideal for when you’re wishing to style it.
Wolf Cut

Love it or hate it, the wolf cut is here to stay. The wolf cut is all about heavy chunky layers around the face and all the back of the head. Its aesthetic is a shabby grunge look that promotes letting the natural texture and consistency of your hair breathe and take its own form. It also sometimes includes a wispy fringe to add extra layering around the face. A heated airbrush is a handy tool to use when styling this cut to allow the natural bounce and shaping of the style to really come alive. With celebrities like Jenna Ortega recently styling the look, it is fair to say that this style is going to gain popularity in 2023.
Box Bob
This hairstyle is an evolution of the mullet that we have seen pop off over the internet in 2022. The box bob is a short, bobbed hairstyle but includes outgrown curtain bangs to make the haircut softer around the face and not as harsh as a regular bob. To create this look, similar to the wolf cut, choppy layers are essential. We have seen celebs such as Florence Pugh recently rock this look, and we can draw inspiration from her hairstyle to help us style this fashionable hairdo.
MAKE UP
Grunge 90s Eyes

It is no secret that the grunge messy aesthetic is back, and for 2023 it’s here to stay. Thanks to the hit show Wednesday, a whole new wave of inspo for the grunge aesthetic has exploded over our feeds and with that, new ideas and adaptations to the look are being formed. In 2023, expect to see the grunge look all over your for-you pages, with a pop of colour added in here and there. The dominant look will echo the Kate Moss 90s vibe with eyeshadow blended around the eyes and along the waterline.
A great palette that would be perfect for those wishing to recreate this look is the Dark Fantasy palette by Beauty Bay as they have an array of colours that include the classic grunge motifs of black, brown, and grey but also have a selection of bright colours such as blues and purples to also play around with.
Another great palette is the Rock N Roll eyeshadow palette that includes shades of dark glamour that would be perfect for any grunge look heading into 2023.
It’s Barbies World

With the very much anticipated release of the new Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie being released in July, it is fair to say this iconic movie is going to influence our beauty trends of 2023. For those out there who love loud colours and pink lips, you’re going to relish in the new make-up trends that will come from this movie. Think, blue glittery eyeshadow, pink glossy lips, and lots of blush. These looks are going to be very glammed and give off an almost 00s energy to them with the pink glossy lips and pastel blue eyeshadow.
Rimmel London does a lovely pastel blue shimmery eyeshadow that would be perfect for creating a Barbie-inspired look. It’s subtle enough to wear with a muted lip if you don’t want the look to be too glammed but equally it can be dressed up by pairing it with a pink glossy lip. A great pink lipstick is the Dior Addict Stellar Shine lipstick in the shade Ibis Pink, this lipstick is a perfect match for the Barbie aesthetic as its vibrant pigment looks gorgeous. The L’oreal Paris Satin Smooth lipstick in shade Pink Fever is another brilliant lipstick that is perfect for creating any Barbie look, as it is a beautiful true bubble-gum pink.
90s Lips
Starting to notice a theme? The 90s are coming back in more ways than one, and lips aren’t an exception. The brown lip liner with glossy lips was a staple look from the 90s and we’ve seen a recent resurgence in the look. This dark pout is very flattering and gives off a mature sexy vibe to a make-up look and is very seductive. Some great brown lip liners to get your hands on are the Bary M cosmetics lip liner in the shade Toast and the Charlotte Tilbury Cheat lip liner in the shade Foxy Brown. The Elf lip gloss is a perfect moisturising shiny lip gloss that would be ideal to glide across your lips with brown or nude lipstick underneath. Dark lips will be a staple look of 2023 and we cannot wait to see it.
Euphoric Embellishments
Euphoria was a major part of 2022, and it will continue to reign going into 2023 with the sequined embellishments that we just couldn’t get enough of. These show-stopping diamonds and sparkles were a gorgeous way to jazz up any make-up look and were very flattering on the eyes. If you wanted a tame look, you could simply put one or two in the corner of your eyes or go full out and have diamonds spread out over the entirety of your eyelids. They are a great added piece to a make-up look and are truly eye-catching. Another aspect of euphoria-inspired make-up that we can expect to see in 2023 is the glittered eyeshadow effect. Gold, silver, and metallic colouring eyeshadow is a gorgeous way to add a little spice to any makeup look and can help bring your make-up alive. Charlotte Tilbury does a lovely selection of glittery eyeshadow that is inspired by diamonds and is truly hypnotising, the shades really make your eyes pop and sparkle. Revolution also has a glittery eye shadow palette that has lots of bright colours for those feeling more adventurous and wanted to brighten up the look with some pinks and purples.
Au Natural Skin

Lastly, for our predictions of make-up trends going into 2023, we have the natural base make-up look that promotes natural-looking skin for the base of your make-up. This next year there will be a heavier emphasis on our eyes being the loud eye-catching aspects of our make-up and our skin texture and base being more subtle. Gone are the days of heavy foundation and concealer, now we are going to want to see our natural features shine through and let our skin breathe. Therefore, expect to see a rise in the use of skin tints, SPF-infused foundations and less full-coverage concealer and foundations.
Skin care in the last two years has been massive, and we are going to showcase our skin more, so very light to non-existent base make-up will be very popular going into 2023. Some amazing skin tint that would be great to give you a little coverage but not too much that your features are hidden is the Fenty Beauty Ease Drop Blurring Skin Tint. This product is amazing at providing a blurred skin effect that is buildable and perfect for the no make-up make-up look that we reckon will be very popular in 2023. The Estee Lauder Daywear Sheer Tint and the NYX skin tint is another great skin tint that would be ideal for a look like this.
