Teyana Taylor returns with a sexy project and with her unique label with which she continues to demonstrate her talent as a songwriter and musical director.
We are talking about ́1-800-One-Night ́, a video clip inspired by the hotlines of the 90s with a caption of old videotapes, with a touch of humor and sensuality under the sensual rhythm R&B of the artist.
This hotline is part of The Album, her most recent album made as a message of love and protest for her community and the search for freedom as an artist. The 23 tracks of the album feature her husband Iman Shumpert along with other great talents like Big Sean, Rick Ross, Erykah Badu, Quavo, Kehlani, and Missy Elliott.
Teyana Taylor- 1800-One-Night Official Video
Spike Tee brings us under the production of Taylor, David Drake, DJ Camper, and their women’s team The Aunties, a life scenario inspired by the adult phone lines of the 90s. Teyana, the comedian Vena Excell, singer Nzings Imani, the actress and model Japanese faces, and producer and creative director, Coco Gilbert, appear as a group of sensual telephone operators talking about spicy things with their clients humorously and sarcastically in their creative and girly cubicles with vintage outfits, printed shirts, big eyelashes, big hoops – very 90s- girl magazines, makeup, telephones, and retro details.
After the two-minute introduction, with a sensual set of silk and lingerie, glossy lips, big hoops and golden touches, Taylor shows us her sensuality by dancing on a phone booth under a play of lights and spicy lyrics and her seductive feminine voice. She lets her man know her desire to see him and enjoy a night together, “Rule me, own me, control me, I’m ready, babe, You only get one night, so do me right. And baby, give it to me, whoa, yeah, My body’s in need…. 1-800-One-Nite, you can call anytime ”.
Finally, the R&B song ends with on-screen filming of a commercial by the sexy gals for its adult business in sensual black lingerie pieces and with a humorous final touch with Teyana walking away from the set reminding us that at the time of recording her video she was pregnant.
Her return has been powerful and charming. This girl has earned the respect of the industry not only by being named Video Director of the Year at the 2020 BET Virtual Awards but also by offering support to the Black Lives Matter movement with her single “Still” where under a performance she did not stay in silent about the abuses and injustices to her community.
With The Album, Taylor has connected us with the golden age of the nineties under her R&B tracks and we are sure that her next video clips will continue to be talked about under her talented direction and versatile style.
